IAES: Zee the Zebra

explaining autoimmune encephalitis to children IN AN INFORMATIVE & PLAYFUL WAY

Top professional staff with innovative ideas. We experienced a smooth flow with the project, excellent team communication, and helpful suggestions.

CLIENT

The International Autoimmune Encephalitis Society (IAES) is the only global organisation dedicated exclusively to the needs of patients and families affected by Autoimmune Encephalitis.

BRIEF

We were asked to create three engaging explainer videos for children about autoimmune encephalitis for the organisations patient education resources. The goal was to feature a lovable character based on the IAES logo to explain symptoms, treatments, and emotional support in a way that makes sense for young minds.

RESULTS

We delivered a quality product the IAES team feels proud of: a vibrant, 2D animated explainer series broken into three accessible parts.

  • The Science: The first video explains what happens inside the body when confused antibodies attack healthy brain cells.

  • The Treatments: The second video explores different medical interventions like IV bags, physical therapy, and cognitive therapy.

  • The Big Feelings: The final video reassures children about their emotions and highlights the importance of their support system.

We got three fantastic videos from Kino Bino. They captured exactly what we were looking to explain to our pediatric audience.

THE PROCESS

We loved bringing Zee the Zebra to life! We designed a witty character with a handy hologram device, ensuring the medical information was highly visual and approachable rather than scary for children.

The heart of this project was a brilliant, collaborative effort. We worked closely alongside a dedicated scriptwriter to make sure the tone was perfectly balanced for young audiences. From there, we had the fun of working with our fantastic character voice artist who breathed real personality, warmth, and wit into Zee. By keeping communication open and sticking to a clear, reliable timeline, we made sure the whole production process was entirely stress-free for the IAES team.

To help the IAES team extend the campaign even further, we also delivered the standalone character assets alongside black and white versions to be used as printable colouring-in sheets for children.
